Local model hardware

Nyx system requirements

Nyx can run without a dedicated GPU. Local-model speed and practical model size depend on CPU, RAM, GPU memory, model quantization, context length, backend support, drivers, and storage.

Minimum working target

  • OS: Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100/3200G class or better
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: SSD strongly recommended; allow roughly 15-30 GB for Nyx, Ollama, and a small starter-model set
  • GPU: Optional for small CPU-run models

Recommended target

  • OS: Windows 11, 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-10400/i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600/5600 class or better
  • RAM: 16 GB minimum
  • Storage: Internal SSD or NVMe for active models
  • GPU: Supported NVIDIA or AMD discrete GPU with at least 8 GB VRAM

Suggested for larger models

  • RAM: 32 GB preferred for larger workflows and agent projects
  • VRAM: 12 GB or more preferred
  • Storage: Internal NVMe with room for multiple model files
  • Best for: Larger contexts, larger models, and less CPU/RAM spillover
